Simon is the new Paula

I usually don't watch American Idol, but was with people who do watch earlier tonight so I saw most of the episode. I do not know any of the contestants' names, but that is fine because I only have this one thing to say - Has Simon even been paying attention for the last few months? How is it that they are at the late stages of the show, right before they choose a top 12, and he does not know how to pronounce people's names? Usually this confusion is left to Paula, but obviously Simon has been watching a different show. What did you think? Was it rude that Simon seems to not really know who they chose to be in the top 36?
