Are we a society that believes in polygamy?

As one of my part-time jobs, I work as a waitress at a restaurant where quite a few of the other employees are 17-19 years old. While talking with the people in this age group recently I have found one thing they all have in common - they think nothing about cheating on their significant other. While there are few people who would admit to being a polygamist, actions speak louder than words. While at first I found it shocking when I heard stories about this guy cheating on his girlfriend with this girl, I began to think about it and may have found the reason.

We have television shows - like Big Love - that are actually based on the idea of polygamy. But it does not stop there. Shows like The Bachelor, More to Love, Daisy of Love, etcetera are portraying the same message: It is OK to sleep around and date a bunch of people if it is masked as "searching for the one." As a society we never seems to have enough. It started with supersizing our french fries, but it seems like we are now attempting to supersize our love lives. Is it too much to ask to want to be in a monogamous relationship? Has television made it impossible for younger generations to understand the importance of true love and commitment? Let me know what you think about this.
