I won't actually make you suffer through a list of what I like and dislike about the new ABC Family television show 10 Things I Hate About You, which is based on the 1999 hit movie starring Heath Ledger and Julia Stiles, but I will mention a few things that make this show worth watching.
First off, the show very closely resembles the movie, which for those who enjoyed the movie means a show that is recognizable and easy to fall in love with. Second, the actors they have playing the characters on the show fit very nicely into the identities originally created by the movie cast: Cameron is obviously so smitten and head over heels in love with Bianca that he would do anything for her; Bianca is still ditzy and only cares about popularity, which leads to her ignoring that there is a bigger and more important world that she should be a part of; Kat is, as always, the cynical activist who does whatever she thinks necessary to prove a point; Patrick is the mysterious yet adorable bad boy who everyone wants to get to know better; etcetera.
My one big concern with this show is that it so closely follows the action of the movie that within a few weeks there will be no material and when left to come up with its own storylines the show will falter. This 97 minute movie is now a television show that, I'm sure, creators want to last for seasons. So they have their work cut out for them in that they need to reinvent something that already has a prescribed presence in many people's minds.
Well enough on my end, I want to know if anyone else watched. If you did, how did you like it? Also, are there any huge fans of the movie who have strong feelings of either like or dislike and wouldn't mind sharing their opinions? Let me know.
