SYTYCD's 100th episode

Tonight's So You Think You Can Dance result show also served as a celebration honoring the show turning 100. There were tons of old contestants in the audience, which was great because it is always nice to see friendly and familiar faces. There was even a montage highlighting the show's five seasons that, as usual, moved me almost to tears. (I don't know what it is about montages but they always choke me up.)

But the show opened with a group dance that I was shocked to hear was choreographed by Mia. It was A Chorus Line inspired and seemed much more like something Tyce would choreograph. The dancers were pristine and sharp and their movements were all perfectly timed, which was very consistent with the theme. I enjoyed the routine.

As part of the celebration, the show's three Emmy award winning dances were performed. So we got to see the Wade Robson choreographed hummingbird and the flower dance performed by Hok and Jamie; Mia Michaels' bench routine performed by Travis and Heidi; and the season two group routine Ramalama that was not only choreographed by Wade, but he also performed in it tonight.

Also featured tonight was the Katie Holmes performance that has been hyped for a few weeks. In this Judy Garland inspired piece she not only danced but sang, GASP. (Or, should I say, pretended to sing. She was totally lip syncing.) The package was more like a movie than a performance; I was expecting it to seem less pre-planned. But she did look hot and her dancing was respectable. Tyce's choreography made her look good. And her performance benefited the Dizzy Feet Foundation so that kind of makes up for it though I think there are so many other stars out there who would have done a better job.

But let's get down to the real business. Tonight's bottom four were Janette and Kayla for the girls and Jason and Brandon for the guys. They each performed the solo they danced last night and as the hour came to a close we found out that Jason and Janette were going home. I think Jason had it coming but I am a bit shocked at America for not voting for Janette. Last night Mia called her her favorite and tonight Nigel said he thought she was going to win the season.

So, first, what did you think of the celebration and, specifically, Katie Holmes' performance? Second, are you sad about who was sent home? And, as a side note, I rewatched the breast cancer dance and I guess I can see what the appeal is. But I only think it will be memorable because of the topic and not so much because of the performance. By this point last year there were so many memorable performances and few from this season stand out to me. The top six have large shoes to fill and I really hope the next two weeks provide some outstanding performances.
