Here is a brief recap of this week's Mercy.
- Each nurse had one patient who they devoted much of their time to in this episode. For Chloe, it is a drug addict who took advantage of her naivety and got her to give him his drugs. But in the end Chloe listens to her gut and saves the patient's life when everyone else was willing to just dismiss him as a druggie. As for Sonia, she is usually very hard-edged and does not like to get attached to patients. But when a Jane Doe with HIV is brought into the ER she goes searching for her family members. Then, when her son wants nothing to do with her even though she is near death, Sonia sits in the room with her until she dies. Veronica also had a case to work on. A young man gets in a stupid accident and in the end, after thinking he was going to be OK, has to have part of his leg amputated. This makes him severely depressed and Veronica goes to extreme lengths - even searching for the amputated leg so that the patient can say goodbye to it - to cheer him up.
- At the beginning of the episode Veronica announces that her plan is to play it cool with Dr. Sands but we soon see that she is really bad at this. He knows that things are awkward, but they don't really have a choice in the matter. When he starts complaining about how much he hates living in New Jersey, Veronica suggests leaving, but he says no. Sands tells her he has no intention of sabotaging her marriage but that he also does not plan to give up on her.
